Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process by which our parish prepares candidates to receive the Sacraments of Initiation — Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. More than a process, it is a journey of faith for Catholics who may not have been confirmed, or for those individuals wishing to become Catholic.
During their discernment journey, participants learn about and experience the Catholic-Christian faith guided by their own questions and reflections. The RCIA Program includes four phases where the newly initiated experience catechesis and community more deeply and commit to continuously growing in their faith. Most importantly for us at the Church of St. Mary, we must recognize that the“initiation” of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized. Therefore, each of us is called to journey with the candidates by our fervent prayer for them, by offering true hospitality throughout their discernment, and by allowing our lives to speak of God’s abundant mercy and love. This is evangelization — this is our mission as Catholic-Christian prophets. The unexpected gift of walking with our candidates and catechumens is that our own sense of faith is uniquely strengthened and enlivened to embody Christ in our world!
If you wish to serve on the RCIA Team, or if you are curious about ways to support the participants, or if you know someone seeking information about preparing for the Sacraments of Initiation, contact the director. As a parish community let us remain open to the work of the Spirit and pray that all “will know we are Christians by our love”. Amen!
