St. Mary Knitters involves talented and devoted people who knit and crochet a wide variety of goods to support multiple areas of Parish Life, such as the following:
- Families in need who shop at the Olneyville Food Center
- Those who are ill or grieving and served by our Ministers of Care in the Prayer Shawl Ministry
- Our parish fundraiser, Bazaar on Broadway, held each November
The camaraderie that grows out of this casual group is priceless as everyone comes together weekly to knit/crochet, socialize and enjoy light refreshments. Each crafter may put his/her talent to work for whatever cause is most appealing.
Parishioners who are experienced knitters and crocheters are welcome to join at any point. People, who are not available to meet but enjoy the craft, often knit or crochet at home. Others may have friends or family who knit or crochet and like contributing their talent for a good cause. From the beginner to the highly experienced—all are welcome.
For anyone who would like to learn to knit or crochet, we are always happy to teach new people. The patterns and yarn are available for anyone who does not have supplies. We suggest that you use your own needles or crochet hooks. In addition to contributing to our ministries, you will acquire the skills to create items for yourself, family and friends.
We often ask, “Can you make just ONE item for our ministry?” What a great way that would be to see if using your time and talent for an important cause results in personal satisfaction and new friendship.
All donations of yarn, patterns, knitting needles and crochet hooks are gladly accepted.
Meetings: Tuesday mornings from 10 am to noon in the parish rectory.
